Data Economy — The Data Economy department is shaping the future of the data economy.

About the Department

Data is the basis for countless value chains in the digital economy. It has become an essential resource for economic growth and social progress. The data economy plays a significant role in almost every industry.

In the Data Economy department, we want to do justice to this and promote cross-market collaboration between numerous stakeholders. At the same time, we are establishing a national and European lobby for the data economy.

Mission

We create optimal conditions for the success of companies in the digital economy by ensuring fair market conditions and guaranteeing data and consumer protection.

Vision

We want to ensure that companies in the digital economy can work innovatively and successfully. In addition, the department strives to play a leading role in shaping the relevant framework conditions at national and European level.

Scope

To establish fair market conditions for the Digital Economy, we publish statements, whitepapers, and organize discussion rounds. Our key focus areas include data-driven business models, data protection, relevant legal frameworks at the national and European levels, as well as the value and quality of data.

Additionally, the Data Economy department within the BVDW serves as the interface to the German Advertising Online Privacy Council (Deutschen Datenschutzrat Online-Werbung). The German Advertising Online Privacy Council is the voluntary self-regulatory body for the digital advertising industry for interest-based online advertising.
